TL;DR

How much does a commercial cost in 2026? For a professionally produced commercial or brand film, most quotes land at $10,000 to $75,000. Small studios can come in around $3,000 to $15,000, and high-end agency work starts near $50,000 and climbs well past six figures.23 That's a wide spread, and the number on your quote depends far more on how the film gets made than on how long it runs.

I make these for a living, so here's the breakdown I wish every buyer had before their first call: real ranges by tier, where the money goes, the costs nobody puts on page one, and what AI-assisted production has actually changed.

How much does a commercial cost? Prices by tier

Every production company publishes its own ranges, and they don't line up perfectly. Pulled together, the picture looks like this, and the same tiers hold for video production cost in general:

Who makes itTypical project costWhat you're paying for
Freelancer$1,000–$3,000 minimum; $600–$1,200 per shoot dayOne person shooting and editing1
Small studio$3,000–$15,000Small crew, simple story, one location2
Mid-tier agency$15,000–$75,000Creative team, scripting, crew, full post2
High-end agency$50,000–$150,000+Director, large crew, talent, multiple locations3

How much does a TV commercial cost compared to a web brand film?

When people search "how much does a commercial cost," they usually picture TV. TV production costs more at every level:

Type of commercialTypical production cost
Basic local TV spotAround $2,5003
Regional TV commercial$15,000–$75,0002
National broadcast commercial$75,000–$500,000+2
Professional 30-second spot, any channel$10,000–$50,0003

The ad industry used to publish an official benchmark for the cost of a 30-second commercial on national TV. The last one, the 4A's 2011 survey, put the average at $354,000, and they stopped publishing it after that edition.13 You'll still see newer "4A's" figures quoted online. They aren't real.

Keep two things in mind. Those figures cover production only; airtime is a separate media buy that the production quote doesn't include.3 And for most service businesses, the commercial that matters runs on your website, YouTube and social feeds, where the tier ranges above apply and there's no airtime to buy unless you choose to run paid ads.

Why quotes for the same video differ by 10x

If you've collected three quotes and gotten $4,000, $18,000 and $60,000, nobody is necessarily ripping you off. Usually you're comparing three different products with the same name.

"Brand film," "brand video" and "commercial" get used interchangeably, which is why brand video cost estimates online are all over the place. One studio prices brand films at $1,500 to $13,000.5 Another puts them at $20,000 to $100,000 and up, and defines them as long-form, high-production storytelling.4 A third quotes brand films and commercials together at roughly $5,000 to $50,000+.7 Same words, completely different scope.

So before you compare prices, compare what's in the box:

  • Length and format. A 15-second social cut, a 60-second homepage film and a 3-minute founder story are three different jobs.
  • How it's made. Live-action shoot, animation, or AI-assisted production.
  • How many versions you get. One horizontal master, or a full set of cutdowns in vertical, square and widescreen.
  • What you're allowed to do with it. Organic social only, or paid ads, TV and your website, forever.

What drives brand film cost

On a traditional shoot, the budget splits into three phases. Pre-production (strategy, scripting, storyboards, casting) takes roughly 15–25%. Production, the actual shoot days, takes 40–55%. Post-production takes 25–35%.1

20% Pre-production 15–25% · strategy, script, casting 47.5% Production 40–55% · shoot days, crew, gear 30% Post-production 25–35% · edit, color, sound
Midpoints of Vidico's published ranges: pre-production 15–25%, production 40–55%, post 25–35%.

Inside those phases, these are the line items that move the number most:

Line itemTypical cost
Creative development$3,000–$15,0002
Script and storyboards$2,000–$10,0002
Crew of 2–4$3,000–$8,000 per day2
Crew of 12+$15,000–$25,000 per day2
Actors$500–$1,500 per day1
Locations$500–$3,000 per day1
Editing$3,000–$10,0002
Color, sound and music$6,000–$55,000 combined2

The pattern is simple. Every extra day on set multiplies the budget, because crew, gear, talent and location all bill by the day. That's why the single best way to control cost on a traditional shoot is to plan it so everything gets captured in as few days as possible.3

The costs that don't show up on page one

These are where budgets quietly double.

Usage rights. Talent fees and licensing scale with how widely the film runs and for how long. On some productions, rights cost as much as the shoot itself.3 Ask who owns the final film and what you're allowed to do with it before you sign.

Cutdowns and aspect ratios. You'll want the film in vertical for Reels and TikTok, square for feeds, and widescreen for your site. Finishing those versions typically adds 15–25% to post-production.2

Revisions. Most quotes include one or two rounds. Extra rounds run $500 to $2,000 each.1

Rush timelines. Need it in two weeks instead of eight? Expect 20–50% on top.12 Traditional brand films usually take anywhere from 2 to 12 weeks.2

Media. The production quote buys the asset. It doesn't buy anyone seeing it. Buyers mix these two up all the time.3

What AI changed, and what it didn't

The shift is real and it's fast. IAB's 2025 video ad report found 86% of buyers already rely on generative AI for video creative or plan to, and it expects AI-built ads to hit 40% of the total by 2026.8 Wistia found 41% of brands using AI for video in 2025, up from 18% a year earlier.10 Wyzowl's 2026 survey put AI use among video marketers at 63%, up from 51%.9

What AI is very good at:

  • Concepting, previsualization and fast iteration on ideas2
  • Backgrounds, environments and shots that would need a location or a set
  • Versioning: cutdowns, aspect ratios, captions and translations310

What it doesn't replace, according to the producers who use it every day: directing, story, and the judgment calls that make a film feel like your brand instead of stock footage.23

You'll see some dramatic numbers floating around. One firm estimates fully AI-native production fell about 91% per finished minute between 2024 and 2026, with hybrid AI-assisted work down around 40%.11 They don't publish how they measured it, so treat it as a direction, not a fact. The direction is right, though. Execution got cheap. Thinking didn't.

That leaves three real options in 2026:

  1. DIY AI tools. Avatar platforms run about $20–$30 a month and work fine for training and internal video.4 They look like what they are.
  2. Traditional production. $15k–$75k+ and weeks of lead time. Still the right call for big casts, real locations and broadcast campaigns.
  3. Directed, AI-assisted production. An AI brand film with a human strategist and director, where AI does the heavy lifting on execution. Fixed price, measured in days, not months.

Where Goat Sites fits

That third option is what we build: brand video production directed by people and executed with AI. We publish our prices because almost nobody else in this space does.

The Brand Character is the sleeper. Once you have a custom spokesperson, every future video gets cheaper and faster, because the hardest creative decision is already made. No published pricing guide I've seen even mentions this as an option.

Is a brand film worth the money?

The survey data says most businesses think so. In Wyzowl's 2026 report, 91% of businesses use video, 82% of video marketers say it gives them a good return, and 85% say it has helped them generate leads.9 Wistia's 2025 data, drawn from more than 14 million videos, showed video conversion rates up 11% year over year, and 57% of companies increasing their video budgets.10

Two things from that Wistia data matter if you're buying a short brand film. Videos under a minute held 50% engagement on average, beating longer ones. And a call to action placed early in a sub-60-second video converted nearly 40% of viewers.10

One stat you should ignore: "landing pages with video convert 80% better." It traces back to an old vendor study with no published method, and it still gets recycled in 2026 roundups.12 If someone pitches you with it, ask for the source.

My own take is simpler. Text and photos ask a lot of a stranger in the first few seconds. A brand film does that work instantly. It replaces a decision someone has to think through with something they just feel. In a market where every dentist, law firm and med spa sounds the same on paper, that's the difference.

How to keep brand film cost down without making it look cheap

  • Decide what the film is for before you ask for quotes. Homepage hero, paid social ad or recruiting video. Each one changes the format and the price.
  • Ask for all the cutdowns up front. Adding versions later costs more than planning them.2
  • Lock your revision rounds in the contract, and have one decision-maker on your side.2
  • Get usage rights in writing, including paid ads and how long you can run it.3
  • Don't pay for a rush you created. Book production 3–4 weeks ahead on a traditional shoot, or choose a model built for days instead of weeks.
  • Compare deliverables, not just the total. A $9,000 quote with three formats and full rights can beat a $6,000 quote with one file and a 12-month license.
  • Make sure your website can convert the traffic. A film sends people to your site. Our Authority Scorecard shows how your site stacks up before you spend on video.

Frequently asked questions

What's the cost of a 30-second commercial?

Most professional 30-second spots cost $10,000 to $50,000 to produce, and some guides put the floor closer to $5,000.13 Short films cost more per second than long ones because every second carries more production.

How much does a TV commercial cost?

Production for a basic local TV spot can run around $2,500, a regional TV commercial $15,000 to $75,000, and a national broadcast spot $75,000 to $500,000+.23 Airtime is a separate media buy on top of that.

How much does a brand video cost?

Usually the same as a brand film, because most studios use the terms interchangeably: $10,000 to $75,000 for professional production, less for a small studio and more for a high-end agency.23 Check what's included before comparing quotes.

How much does video production cost per minute?

Anywhere from $500 to $20,000+ per finished minute. Brand videos usually land between $1,000 and $10,000 per minute.16 Per-minute pricing is misleading for short films, so compare total deliverables instead.

How long does it take to make a brand film?

A traditional production usually takes 2 to 12 weeks, depending on scope.2 AI-assisted production is measured in days. Our films take 3 to 10 business days from approved script.

Why do brand film quotes vary so much?

Because "brand film" means different things to different studios. Published ranges run from $1,500–$13,000 at one studio to $20,000–$100,000+ at another.54 Compare length, production method, number of versions and usage rights, not just the total.

Does AI actually make brand films cheaper?

Yes, for execution: environments, versions, cutdowns and captions. It doesn't replace strategy, story or directing.23 The best results come from a human director using AI, not from AI alone.

Who owns the brand film when it's done?

Whatever your contract says, so get it in writing. Usage rights and talent fees can cost as much as the shoot on traditional productions, and they scale with how widely and how long you run the film.3

How long should a brand film be?

For websites and social, under a minute usually performs best. Wistia found videos under one minute averaged 50% engagement, ahead of longer videos.10 Longer founder or story films work when the viewer is already interested.
